We create all of our fragrances ourselves at our studio just outside London. It takes a lot of work, but we love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. From field to bottle, the steps are as follows:

1. Creation

Ruth uses her 40 years of perfumery experience to select the ingredients she wants to tell the story of her fragrance. Over a 2-3 year period, she creates a special “fragrance formula” – just like a cooking recipe.

2. Ingredients harvest

Whether it’s Rose Oil from Bulgaria or Lime Oil from Persia, the flowers, plants, fruits and spices need to be picked at very specific times of the year (and sometimes even times of the day!).

3. Oil extraction

Once the ingredients have been harvested, the fragrance oil is derived using extraction techniques such as steam distillation, where the rising steam helps to separate the oils from the plants.

4. Manufacturing

We mix all the oils and ingredients by hand in large vats according to Ruth’s fragrance formula at our manufacturing partner in Northamptonshire.

5. Chilling & Filtering

The mixed fragrance concoction is sent to our small workshop in the beautiful Cotswolds where it is combined with alcohol and water, chilled in the fridge and then filtered to remove any solids.

6. Filling & boxing

Finally, each bottle is then caringly filled by hand, and lovingly boxed up ready for you.
